My name is Maya Angelique.

I am a spoken word artist, writer, event curator, and the hostess of a monthly open mic series at BLK Ivy Thrift based in Philadelphia, PA.

I am a Southern New Jersey native with a love for writing that has been instilled in me from a very early age by my mother. My family home was filled to the brim with books featuring Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni and my namesake, Maya Angelou.

When I was seventeen years old, I attended my very first spoken word poetry event, and fell in love with the craft ever since. For as long as I can remember, indulging my creativity and my passion for writing has been a powerful tool for inner healing, connecting with others and fellowship with my Creator. I would describe my writing style as illustrative, containing a myriad of themes in womanhood, blackness, self-actualization, faith and memory. It is reminiscent of my life’s experiences, and of the neo-soul, jazz and gospel music I grew up with.

In addition to a central space to view and book my work, Sincerely, Angelique is a soft place to land for candid, heartfelt storytelling and discussions on faith, life, creativity, and holistic nourishment.
